Administrative Assistant

I grew up in Springfield, Virginia, in a neighborhood full of kids who became lifelong friends. Fairfax County felt affluent and intense. My high school held 2,000 students across grades seven through twelve, and even then I knew I'd feel more at home somewhere smaller and quieter.

It took me about 30 years to get there. I moved through Fairfax, Herndon, Ashburn, and Purcellville before finally landing in Winchester. I like the pace here, the friendly neighbors, and the fact that I can drive to DC for a show or stay put and enjoy the mountains. Both options feel equally good depending on the day.

I spent years as a stay-at-home mom before a friend of a friend hired me to do administrative work at Centaurus Financial. I didn't know much about the financial industry when I started, but I learned quickly that I was good at the behind-the-scenes work. Updating databases, cleaning up applications, keeping systems organized. It turns out I enjoy that kind of precision, and I like knowing it frees up the advisors to focus on the people sitting across from them.

Today I handle administrative support at Creekside Financial Group, which mostly means making sure nothing gets missed. I studied at George Mason University, but honestly, most of what I know about this work came from doing it. What keeps me here is the people, both the team I work with and the clients we serve. There's real satisfaction in being part of something that helps people reach their financial goals, even if my role happens off-stage.

I have three kids. Kyle is pursuing a PhD in space physics at UTSA. Kamryn is studying psychology with a biology minor and considering a career as a physician assistant. Hope is in high school. My parents live less than 10 minutes away, and I'm grateful for that proximity to be able to see them often.

I volunteer as the uniform coordinator for the high school band, which means I lead a team of parents managing concert, marching, and indoor drumline uniforms. It's a way to stay involved with Hope's world and get to know the other kids she spends time with. Outside of that, I read fiction constantly, meet friends for coffee or drinks, do Pilates, play games, and work through puzzles. I watch too much TV. Ted Lasso is my favorite. Football is life. And whenever I can, I get to the beach. That's my reset button.
